Obi-Wan silently looked out at the space port from the depths of his white cloak. It was a dingy little station, not much in the way of products and about as far out on the outer rim as you could get and still have some form of safety... And what made it even better, there had been no Jedi there for almost three generations.

As far as he was concerned the Jedi could go to Sith hell for what they had let happen to Qui-Gon. He wanted nothing more to do with them. After handing Ani over to Yoda, who had agreed that it was best for the 900 year old master to train the boy, he had packed his things as if he were going on a short vacation with the time the Council had given him. But then with the help of a little mind trick he had not gone on to his destination of Loma Derra, the traditional Jedi relaxation grounds, instead he had *convinced* the pilot of the small vessel that they needed to make a short stop off at a tiny planet not even named on the Jedi charts. After convincing the pilot that he was still on the ship he made his way to the docks, to see where the next freight haller was going. It had been destined for a planet in the closet of the outer rings. He had convinced the pilot of the freight that he was just a simple pilgrim and would harm no one and nothing on board, as well as handed over a large sum in solid platinum, Obi-Wan had settled back to watch the stars fly by.

When that freight ride was at an end, he pulled his face from the memory of the crew and went to find another, to take him farther out.

That was how he had ended up here. The planet this port was umbilically attached to was simply called Terra. It wasn't much to look at. A small farming world that had nothing special about it other than being so far out, and even that wasn't saying much.

Sighing Obi-Wan turned and went to the lift that would carry him to the surface, where he would hopefully be able to start a new life for himself and the baby he carried within him.

**** Meanwhile.... Back on Coruscant

Ani sighed as he performed the third kata, which on it's own wasn't that hard, but with his master riding on his back it was very difficult.

"Enough for today, this is... Speak with you, I must, padawan." Yoda said tapping Ani on the shoulder just when the boy thought he was going to drop.

"Yes, master. Back to our quarters?" Ani asked, but didn't move to take the small master from his back.

Yoda just grunted then said, "Jog back to our quarters, you will. Start now."

Sighing again, Ani took off for their quarters hoping this was all of the physical stuff for today... He was starting to lose feeling in his butt from having Master Yoda sitting on it.

"Heard that I did! Run you will, back to the rooms." Yoda commanded, though inside he was laughing, enjoying having a padawan again. Especially one as bright as Anakin.

At their door Yoda stopped him before the blond could key the door. "Speak with you I must... Something the Council has kept from you... Important and startling, I fear."

"What is it, master?" Ani sat the short green master on his feet to draw deep breathes.

"Master Qui-Gon is not dead. A ploy, it was. Waiting within, he is." Yoda tapped the panel and the door opened.

Anakin stared at the man he had thought was dead and gave a happy little yip before rushing to him and wrapping his arms around his waist. "Master Qui-Gon!"

"Hello, Ani. I was shocked to find out that you were with my master instead of with Obi-Wan like I had requested." Qui-Gon had hoped to train him with his young lover, but it was not what the Force had decided.

"Other things, Knight Kenobi had on his mind... No room for a padawan, he had. Good it is to see you, my padawan." Yoda said as he waddled to his chair and settled himself there to grin internally at his past student and his new one.

"Knight? You didn't tell me he had to face his trials, master." Qui-Gon bit at his lips, worried for his lover.

"Face normal trials, he did not. Faced his greatest fear when he picked up your light saber and fought on, he did. Faced far worse than most do in their trials, he did." Yoda said with a little hum and a shake of his head.

Qui-Gon settled onto the cushions with a sigh and watched in amusement as Ani ran around doing the traditional jobs of a padawan. "Where is he? I don't sense him in the temple... our life bond is still too weak to reach farther than planet wide."

"Life bond, you say? Know of this, I did not. Weak, a young bond is... Gone to Loma Derra to recover, he has. Time you have as well... Join him you will?" Yoda asked half in question, half in order.

"I will my master. You do know you're a meddling old fool, right?" Qui-Gon said softly as he smiled at Yoda.

"Fool am I?! Meddle do I?! Neither I think... Your mind is lost in you pants, I think. Go to him you will!" Yoda all but growled as he glared lovingly at his former student.

"Of course master. Take care, both of you. I will see you when Obi and I return." Qui-Gon said as he bowed and left the room.

**** Two Days Later... Loma Derra

"What do you mean he never checked in?" Qui-Gon asked confused. He had tracked Obi-Wan here and while he had made a reservation he had never been here.

"I'm sorry, Master Jinn. He never checked in here. Though... according to flight records he did arrive here... Perhaps he went to a different housing service?" the young man said as he read the list of names for persons arriving planet side.

"Of course... My thanks to you." Qui-Gon said still confused as he left. If Obi-Wan was on this planet their infant lifebond should be telling him so. But it was as silent as if Obi was across the galaxy.

Turning he walked away and went to search for his lover, wondering not for the first time what was going on.

**** One Day Later... Loma Derra

"I tell you, master he never made it here. The pilot who delivered him has had his memories altered and I can not find the ones that were changed. I believe Obi-Wan has been taken." Qui-Gon told Yoda over a secure channel as he fought the unease that was settling deep in his soul.

"Meditate you should... Look for answers as well. Find him, you will." Yoda said with a nod before cutting the transmission.

**** One Year Later.... Coruscant

"I can't meditate anymore, master... My center is gone." Qui- Gon said softly as he stared through bitter drawn eyes at his former teacher.

"Understand I do... Find him we will. Rest you should. Sleep." the command behind the last was enough to force the exhausted Qui-Gon into a much needed sleep.

"Will he be okay, Master Yoda?" Ani asked as he watched Yoda levitate Qui-Gon into a most comfortable position upon the pillows.

"Know this, I do not... Find Obi-Wan we must... Survive without him, my former padawan can not. Come, meditate, we will." Yoda turned and lead Anakin away from the sleeping man.

**** Meanwhile... above Terra

"Master, do you feel that?" Padawan Akna asked as she stared out at the small planet they had been forced to stop at for supplies.

Master Windu looked over her shoulder and nodded. "I feel it as well... A very strong Force signature. We should go and check it out. Maybe we'll have found Knight Kenobi."

"Master, you don't really think he's still alive do you?" Akna asked turning to stare at her master.

"We must not give up hope, Akna... So long as Master Jinn still lives. Come, let us see what we've found." Mace smiled at his new padawan. After Yoda has taken Anakin under his tutelage he had suggested that perhaps all of the Council should and Mace had agreed. It was a good reminder of where they had come from.

**** Minutes later... Terra

"Shush... Calm, little one. It's okay." Obi-Wan said as he soothed the scuffed knee of a small child who had fallen in front of his shop.

It wasn't much just a mechanical repair shop, with him working as a some times healer from the living quarters in the back. The people around had learned of his healing ability shortly after he bought the small empty shop. A woman had fallen from the second floor window of the shop across from Obi-Wan. Unthinking, he had held her life force stable until she could be taken to a true healer.

She had been the favored wife of the man who owned the shop and had thanked him by sending all of his robots over for Obi-Wan to fix at a rate far higher than the former Jedi felt really comfortable taking.

After setting the little boy on his way again Obi-Wan turned to go back to the R2 unit he had been working on, when a short huffing cry stopped him.

Smiling he went to the cradle resting in the corner away from the windows and safely away from the customers. Leaning over he gently lifted Rai-Lyn out settled her on his shoulder. "Hush, my precious one... It's okay." Obi-Wan soothed her as he drew a clean diaper up from the container beside the cradle. Laying her on a clean space on his work table, he swiftly changed her dirty diaper and tucked it away in a scent proof bucket he kept for that purpose. "Is that better, lightling?" Obi-Wan asked as he carried her over and turned the sign in his window so that it said 'Back in Ten Minutes' both in common and Huttesse. Then he closed and locked the door.

Turning he carried her to the small yard at the back of the shop and settled down into a rocking chair that faced the distant mountain. Gently, he eased his top so that one of his engorged nipples was exposed and allowed Rai-Lyn to latch on. As he rocked gently he studied the perfect little person he held. Her hair was already past her ears and the same shade as Qui-Gon's has been... Well at least the part that hadn't been silver, yet. Her eyes were still mostly the hazy blue of most newborn humanoids, but Obi-Wan was certain they were deepening to the beloved sky hue he missed so much. Honestly, she looked nothing like him, sharing only his more delicate size rather than her other father's more imposing one.

She had been born less than five months ago, but it was obvious she was to be very strong with the Force. Possibly even taking a place in the top five percent of the Jedi ranks with her father. Drawing Obi-Wan from his thoughts Rai-Lyn let go of the shriveled nipple and smacked her lips endearingly.

"Had enough, lightling?" Obi-Wan asked using the nickname he had used since before she had been born. Even while she grew inside of him, the pure light Force she had exuded was enough to spawn the sweet little pet name.

Rai-Lyn smacked her lips again and let out a soft belch, making her father laugh and lift her to his shoulder, patting to make certain that was all of the air she had swallowed.

Humming and balancing her, he used a little Force to straighten his clothing. After he was certain there was no more air Obi-Wan rose and walked back to the shop and turned the sigh back to the side marked 'open'. Opening the door he stepped out and waved a little to one of his neighbors and was just about to walk back in when a flash of Force presence made him look up the small avenue.

There looking at the small stand not but three doors up from his shop, was Master Mace Windu.

"Oh Force!" turning Obi-Wan hurried into the shop and started shielding both himself and his daughter with the strongest shields he could muster.

**** Meanwhile... three doors up...Terra

"It's gone now, master." Akna said as she looked through the small crystals the store keeper offered.

"I know... But I know it is just a short distance in the direction we've come. Let us continue... Unless you wish something here?" Mace smiled down at the small girl.

"No... it's fine. Thank you anyway." Akna grinned up at him and they left the shop to continue on.

"Master... Can I stop here and see if the craftsman can fix my comm unit?" she asked when she saw the machinist's shop.

"Of course. Let us see... I will feel better if you had a working comm unit." Mace told her and they walked in to see only the back of a man in a startling white cloak gathering things up.

"Master Craftsman?" Mace called softly feeling only the vaguest tendrils of Force from the blocking man in front of them.

"We're closed." Obi-Wan said in a deepened voice, praying to every deity he'd ever known as well as those he'd only heard of through rumor.

"My padawan needs her comm unit fixed. We would be glad to pay you extra for your time." Mace offered still trying to decide if this could be the missing knight or not.

"Sorry. Can't help. Go to Garak's. Over three streets in the middle of the bazaar. Can't miss him. Good day." Obi-Wan said as he went on packing thinking about just trying to make a run for it.

Just then, Rai-Lyn, not liking all of the unknown Force she was feeling let out an unhappy cry.

"Oh! A baby!" Akna said as she hurried closer to where the infant lay in her crib. As she got within seeing distance Obi-Wan growled and moved in front of her, stopping her in her tracks.

"I'm sorry... I just wanted to see her." Akna said softly backing off, knowing her mistake about approaching the infant of an unknown person who was off an unknown species.

"Stay back..." Obi-Wan growled as he kept his hood down over his face and turned to lift Rai-Lyn and tuck her into the chest sling he had just put on. With slow moves even Mace was challenged to see he started for the back door.

"Knight Kenobi?" Mace asked softly, not wanting to disturb the almost feral man in front of him. He wasn't certain what was going on, but it was obvious Obi-Wan had secrets that he wished to keep.

When Obi-Wan heard his name he threw back his hood and with one arm wrapped around Rai-Lyn, lit his light saber. "I am no knight. Nor am I a part of the group you serve. I will kindly thank you to leave my shop and this planet... immediately." he hissed through his teeth.

Mace drew back at not only the weapon, but words and the tone they were spoken in. The sheer hate in them startled the Councilman. "Obi-"

"Do not even say my name. You have no right. I will protect my daughter from you sanctimonious murders and your cult of followers." Obi-Wan used the Force to lift the packed bag onto his back and slowly make for the back door.

"We have no wish to take your daughter... We've been worried about you." Mace was still a little off kilter from the reaction he and Akna were receiving from the Knight, but then again this was Qui-Gon's mate. What else could he expect, but the unexpected?

"Oh... you would kill me to have her." Obi-Wan lifted the Force shields he had placed around her for a moment before slamming them shut and backing closer to the door.

Mace drew a sharp breath as the pure Force energy washed over him and then was abruptly cut off. "Obi-Wan-"

"No! You will not take her from me too... I will kill you first." Obi-Wan hissed praying he wouldn't have to fight Mace with Rai-Lyn strapped to his chest.

Master Windu replayed those words and realized what Obi-Wan was thinking. He didn't know Qui-Gon was still alive. "Qui-Gon isn't- "

"DON'T YOU DARE SAY HIS NAME!" Obi-Wan cried in outrage.

"But he-"

"Do you know how hard it is to feel your lifemate dying? There was a tiny life bond forming between us, Mace... So I felt it all... I felt the slow draining of life and then the blackness. The only thing that kept me from joining him or going crazy was Rai-Lyn. I knew that I had to give her life... If for no other reason than to make certain that there was a Jinn still in this life. But because of you and your Sith cursed order she will never know the joy of his laugh... or the pain in his tears... And he is denied the same things. I thought your were friends... I guess he didn't need the Sith for an enemy when he had you and Master Yoda for friends. You killed him as surely as if you were the one that ran him through. Now leave before I am forced to shed blood in front of her..." Obi- Wan said in a calm voice, as he had been able to find his center and focus it.

"Qui-Gon is not dead!" Mace told him when the Knight had ran down from his diatribe.

"What?" Obi-Wan looked at him like he was crazy then narrowed his eyes. "This is some kind of trick. Now that you've felt how strong she is, you're not letting her go."

"No... it isn't. I would never take your child from you. But I speak the truth, your former master is not dead. I spoke with him before my padawan and I left Coruscant... It would be a simple matter of contacting Master Yoda and he would-"

"Speak only more lies... If Qui-Gon is alive then I will contact him on what ever channel you tell me... from here." Obi-Wan refused to give in to the hope that was starting to spark in his heart.

"Easily done." With slow movements Mace walked over to the comm station in the corner and with clearance only a Jedi councilman could have put a call through to Coruscant.

**** Meanwhile... Coruscant

Anakin, while reading one of the text for a class, rose and moved to answer the incessant chime of the comm. "Master Yoda isn't in at this moment and Master Qui-Gon is asleep, can I help you?"

Glancing up the padawan had the grace to blush when he saw Mace. "Master Windu... Do you need me to get Master Qui-Gon?"

Before Mace could answer Obi-Wan hip busted the elder Jedi out of the way to stare at Anakin. "Ani?"

"Obi-Wan!" Ani all but shrieked when he saw his friend.

"Hello, Ani... This is really important... Is Qui-Gon really alive?" Obi-Wan didn't bother hiding the fact he was biting his lip. He was swaying gently, rocking Rai-Lyn into sleep.

Ani all but bounced as he nodded. "Yeah! Turns out that they had him on some mission... Are you going to come home now?"

"Ummm... I don't know if that is home anymore, Ani... Things have changed since you last saw me."

"Oh..." the young blond looked incredibly disappointed but nodded. "I understand."

"I guess I might try..." Obi-Wan shot an apologetic look at Mace, who smiled gently back and nodded.

"That'd be great! Master Qui-Gon nearly drove me and Master Yoda crazy while he's been searching for you... OH! I guess you want me to go get him, huh?" Anakin looked back to where Qui-Gon was resting.

"No... don't... I'll be home soon and see him then... Take care of him, Ani... And don't tell him I've contacted you... I'm trusting you." Obi-Wan gave him a short grin and then cut the transmission.

Turning he looked at Mace and grinned half heartedly. "I've really messed up, haven't I?"

"No... I will agree that it must be brought before the Council, but given that you were expecting a child and in the beginning stages of forming a lifebond, for either you would have been taken off of the active duty lists, I am certain you will be fine. If nothing else you can offer up the hormones as an explanation... Now, do you want to get back to your lifemate or not?" Mace smiled reassuringly at Obi-Wan. He knew that he would have to call in every favor he and Yoda had to make certain the young Knight was not punished, but he would do it in a heart beat.

**** Five Days Later... Coruscant

Obi-Wan looked around at the temple he was certain he was never going to see again. Rai-Lyn bounced happily in the carrier around his chest, taking in all of the brightness that was Coruscant.

"Can you feel that, lightling?... That's your daddy." Obi- Wan murmured as he shared the warmth he was getting from the bond. Mace had already outfitted him properly, so he didn't stand out so much from the other Jedi coming and going from the temple, save for the baby strapped to his chest. He was still leery enough to shield her Force awareness, but slowly he was relaxing.

Upon reaching the quarters he had found Qui-Gon assigned to he knew that his lifemate was meditating and there was someone else with him. After feeling out the other person's Force presence he figured it must be Anakin.

Reaching out he knocked softly, wonder if Qui-Gin had felt him yet.

Anakin opened the door and grinned largely then wrinkled his little nose as he stood on his tip toes to see exactly what Obi-Wan held. "That's a baby."

"This is Rai-Lyn, my daughter." Obi-Wan said as he moved in and just stood staring at his lover knelt in meditation.

"Umm... how about I take her to see Master Yoda while you and Master Qui-Gon... talk?" Anakin suggested then frowned when Obi- Wan shook his head with tears in his eyes.

"No... Qui needs to meet his daughter... But you run on back to your master.... And Ani? Thank you." Obi-Wan gave him a short hug before pushing him gently out of the door.

Quietly, well accustomed to the depths of Qui-Gon's meditation, Obi-Wan took the now sleepy Rai-Lyn into the bedchamber and tucked her into a secure position on the bed before going back to kneel across from his lifemate.

What seemed like a forever later, Qui-Gon slowly opened his eyes and stared at Obi-Wan in a muted way. "You can't be real."

With a shaking hand Obi-Wan reached out and brushed back a few lose hairs before cupping Qui-Gon's cheek. "I'm real, my love."

"How..." Qui-Gon started only to stop and draw his long parted lover to him.

Holding Obi-Wan was soon not enough and Qui-Gon shifted him onto his lap to hold him closer. "I love you... I love you... I'm sorry... I'm so sorry..." the elder man said the litany over and over again as he rocked Obi-Wan back and forth.

When the franticness of Qui-Gon's actions had lessened and he finally looked into Obi-Wan's eyes he smiled so tiredly. //I've missed you so much.//

//I have to, my love.// Obi-Wan returned before standing up and pulling Qui-Gon to his feet. //I have a surprise, beloved.//

//Oh?// Qui-Gon got a lusty look as he allowed Obi-Wan to lead him into the bedchamber.

Once in the room Obi-Wan let go of his hands to pick up the bundle from the bed. //Qui-Gon Jinn please meet Rai-Lyn Jinn... our daughter.//

Obi-Wan held out the baby girl and watched the surprise flood Qui-Gon's features. "Wha...?"

"Our daughter, Rai-Lyn. Or as I call her most of the time, my lightling. Can't you feel her, my love?" Obi-Wan asked as he gently pushed Qui-Gon onto the bed and settled the baby into his arms.

"She's... strong." Qui-Gon murmured a moment later when the wash of Force met his gentle probes of her mind. Raising from her impromptu nap Rai-Lyn glared daggers up at the person invading her mind and in a very simplified form of communication told him to get out.

Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon both laughed and the elder pulled back his mind from his daughter's. "She's very strong... What's her mediclorian<author's note: I couldn't figure out how to spell this right, sorry> count?"

"I... haven't had it taken... I... There are things you don't know, Qui... Things I'm not entirely proud of and might get me kicked from the order." Obi-Wan lowered his head and his shoulders slumped.

"It's okay, my love. Show me." Qui-Gon ordered softly and Obi-Wan allowed him past all of his shields to see what all he had done.

"Is that it?" Qui-Gon asked as short time later as he played with a thin rope of his daughter's hair.

Obi-Wan nodded and smiled gently at the foul look Rai-Lyn was getting. "I think you're about to get your first experience at being daddy, Daddy."

"What?" Qui-Gon looked at Obi-Wan then caught the first trail of scent his daughter was giving off. "Oh great short gods! What is that?"

"What you've got to clean off of her." Obi-Wan said as he reached into the satchel he had carried with him into the bed room the first time around and pulled out a clean diaper.

"Maybe I should watch you the first time... Just to make certain I do it right." Qui-Gon said as he repeated the fear mantra in his head and added 'my daughter's diapers lead to the dark side'.

Obi-Wan chuckled and went about stripping her down for a clean diaper. "Okay... but just so you can get it right next time."

**** Three Weeks Later... Coruscant.... Jedi Council Chambers

"Wrong you were, Knight Kenobi... But understandable your reasons were... No punishment, will we render... Go and Force be with you... And your child." Yoda said as he waved Obi-Wan out of the Council chamber room and out to where Qui-Gon and Rai-Lyn were waiting.

"No punishment." Obi-Wan told them with a grin as he grabbed Rai-Lyn up and swung her in a wide circle making her giggle.

"I knew they wouldn't punish you when they had a hand in causing you to break the rules. Come on... Lets go eat and then we'll take Rai-Lyn to one of the meditation gardens." Qui-Gon said as he wrapped his lifemate and daughter in a hug before leading them away.

**** Short Time Later... Coruscant... Meditation Garden Fifth Level North Tower

With Rai-Lyn sitting between them, playing peacefully, Obi- Wan and Qui-Gon held each other and studied their little girl. "I wish I could have been there with you through out the pregnancy... You must have been gorgeous." Qui-Gon murmured into Obi-Wan's ear.

Blushing and batting lightly at his lifemate's arm Obi-Wan settled a little closer. "Don't worry about it."

"But... what if we are never blessed with another child? I know how rare it is for your planet's males to get pregnant and since my own can not... It doesn't matter to me if we don't have anymore... I am content with our little lightling... But I would still have liked to have seen you rounded with a new life we had made." Qui-Gon said softly as he stroked at Rai-Lyn's little foot making the baby girl giggle and kick out.

"As I said, don't worry about it my love... I am certain you will get to see me large with your child." Obi-Wan told him still amazed at the tiny Force readings he had only started to get the night before. He had been taught that male pregnancies were rare on his homeworld, but apparently Qui-Gon was just virile enough to countermand it.

Qui-Gon, having been monitoring his lover's thoughts subconsciously moved him so that he could looked into his sea- colored eyes. "Are you pregnant again, Obi-Wan?"

"I believe so... After this one is born I think we should find a means of birth control or I'm never going to get out of the Temple until I can reproduce no more." Obi-Wan said with a chuckle as he turned to fit himself against Qui-Gon's chest to lay his head against the taller man's neck.

Qui-Gon, as easily as he could, moved his hand over Obi- Wan's stomach and sent out a little searching wave of Force energy. When he got a strange new Force signature back he let out a booming laugh. "I think you might be right. Though we could repopulate the Jedi with our strong offspring.... We've produced another adept child, my love."

"Yes... but after this one let's hold off producing anymore for a few years." Obi-Wan said with a laugh of his own.

And feeling the need to follow her daddies' example, Rai-Lyn let out a load giggle, making the men laugh even more and Qui-Gon to reach around Obi-Wan to scoop the baby girl up and plant her into Obi-Wan's arms. Then he wrapped his arms around them both and sighed softly almost too happy.

A short distance away Master Yoda was squinting his eyes and Anakin was wiping at his own. "Time to go, it is... Lots of work, you have. On your shoulders, you carry me. I think... the three new katas you learned, you will do... Though run to training room, you will first." Yoda ordered softly and for once Anakin didn't groan in mock horror.
