His Padawan's Gaze

by Elizabeth Abernethy

You may archive it at M/A and the mirror sites. Anywhere else and you will have to ask permission.

My Padawan, what do you see
when you are so rudely staring at me?
Why stare so hard?
You should know what I look like by now,
surely.
I wonder how
to ask you what is wrong.
You are not angry, fearful. You are strong
and sure.
You whose heart I know to be pure.

Is it longing I sense
or is it puzzlement?
Perhaps you wonder what my thoughts are.
By far,
in time you will know.
My amusement, I will not show.

Now, back to work, my Padawan!
You're not the only one
that gets distracted.
In fact
often have I been curious
about your feelings and thoughts,
as your Master I ought.

Perhaps, someday,
somehow, someway
to you I will reveal
what I think and feel.
Ah, but not this day.
Padawan! Do as I say!
