"Little Gods"

Little Death came ripping
a hole into my sky
Little Dream came slipping
nightmares into my mind
Little Despair stood watching
the fire cease and sleep
Little Hope stood smiling
while she watched me weep
Little Death said: Yonder,
in lands of gentle blue,
your lover he lies sleeping
waiting there for you
Little Dream came dancing,
took me by the hand,
Said: Grief not for the phantom
that sleeps in my sister's land
Little Despair said nothing
just stood there with a frown,
and when she caught me staring
she mumbled and turned around
Little Hope, I wonder, she did not speak at all
and waiting there I realized:
Hope had died long ago
Her child's corpse has been buried
along with Father Love
and all I saw was an idea
still strong enough to move
Hope and Love lie rotting,
their bones long since picked clean,
Too weak to work their wonders
but strong enough for dreams
Love and Hope are echoes
fading with the dawn
they were replaced by Misery
and Bonds Waiting To Be Torn
Little Death said: Darling
there is a prize to pay
You've had your happy moments -
I'll take him now, okay?
