Summary: After Qui-Gon asked the Jedi Council to train Anakin, Obi-Wan felt rejected. But his Master shows him he had special feelings for him...

The Queen's spaceship sliced through the space with determination. No one could now stop it. It raced to its destiny fueled by Queen Amidala's will. They were now all united with the young woman's fate.

Obi-Wan sighed. He was standing in the small cabin they had been given for the trip and was playing with a computer disk, turning it between his fingers without even knowing what he was doing. He was far away from the Queen's preoccupations, from the war that was raging on Naboo.

He had been deeply hurt on Corruscant, hurt by his own Master, by the man he considered his closest friend for twenty years, a man he had always trusted with his heart and soul. And now that boy had appeared, and Qui-Gon seemed to have almost forgotten him.

Obi-Wan could still hear the quiet but definitive words spoken by Qui-Gon in front of the whole Jedi Council. His beloved Master had just simply rejected him in front of the other Jedi Masters, telling them that the young man was no longer his Padawan, but was now a Jedi by himself. Such words could be a reward, but only if they were spoken at the right time and in the right way. Usually it was a great time in a Jedi's life when his Master told him he was ready to live by his own, to be his own Master. That didn't mean the young Jedi had nothing more to learn, but that meant he was now recognized as a Jedi himself, not simply as an apprentice.

Despite what he had told the Council, Obi-Wan doubted he was ready. He had so much more to learn! And if Qui-Gon had spoken the truth, his Master should have told him before, privately, as a reward, not in front of the Council with a presentation of rejection.

Obi-Wan even hadn't the comfort of hating the boy. He couldn't hate. A Jedi ignored that kind of feeling. That was the dark side of the Force. The young Jedi smiled when he thought Master Yoda's words about Anakin's fear. Fear lead to anger, anger lead to hate, and hate to the dark side. That was so true.

A soft swish pointed out to him his Master was entering the room. Obi-Wan's heart leapt in his chest at the sight of Qui-Gon. At the very beginning, when he was still a child, the young Jedi had seen his Master only as a fatherly figure. But since a few years, his feelings had deeply evolved. Now he could tell he was deeply in love with Qui-Gon. It wasn't something weird or rare. A lot of apprentices fell in love with their Master when they became adult, and often the feelings were mutual. The Jedi knights had a lot of couples in their ranks.

Obi-Wan had hoped it would be the same thing for Qui-Gon and he. But his Master had never shown anything else but friendship toward him, and the young Jedi had never dared to cross the line by opening his heart. His Master was a solitary and a secret person. If he had some dates, Obi-Wan didn't know about them. And now there was that boy.

"Still lost in your thoughts, my Padawan?" Qui-Gon asked softly.

Obi-Wan wondered if his Master was aware of his apprentice's feelings and he concluded that Qui-Gon knew him too well to ignore them. "Am I still your apprentice, Master?" he asked with some anger in his voice. "I thought you said I was ready to be on my own!"

Qui-Gon didn't reply. He only had a soft smile, and Obi-Wan blushed. He had gone too far. He had let his emotions dominate him and he had acted the wrong way, spoken the wrong way. He stood up, his head lowered.

"I'm sorry, Master. I think I need some time to meditate."

As his eyes were locked on the ground, he wasn't aware of Qui-Gon's move until he felt the warm hand of his Master stroking his cheek.

"You're forgiven, Obi-Wan. I owe you some apologies too. I didn't intend to hurt you neither to give you the impression I rejected you."

Qui-Gon removed his hand and sat down on his berth. "The boy is special, Obi-Wan. He had the Force strongly in him. He could be the Chosen One. The Council isn't aware of that fact, I don't know why. I see it as clearly as I see you. That's why I acted like I did."

Obi-Wan nodded, too much upset to be able to speak. Last time his Master had patted his cheek like that he was still a child.

"The Council seems to think he's too old to be trained," Obi-Wan said slowly, "and we both know they're right. He's nine years old, Master. It's too late for him."

Qui-Gon sighed. His Padawan was right. But he was wrong too. "You know, the Council's rules are good in general. But there are always some special cases that need to be considered out of the law. Anakin is one of them."

Obi-Wan pinched his lips despite him. Qui-Gon smiled again, "Don't be jealous, my Padawan. You'll be a great Jedi, probably one of the greatest of this generation. My concern about the boy had nothing to do with my feelings for you. You're not a toy I rejected after playing with it for years for a new one."

Obi-Wan smiled to his Master's words. "Our friendship is precious to me," he said softly.

Qui-Gon rose to his feet and stood before his apprentice. "Only friendship?" he only said.

The young Jedi stared at him with wide eyes. His heartbeat increased. This time, he saw his Master's hand moving to his cheek. Obi-Wan tentatively put his own hand on the older man's, then slightly turned his head and kissed Qui-Gon's palm. The Master Jedi smiled and leaned toward his apprentice, kissing him on the lips. Obi-Wan shivered. It was a single kiss, just lips against lips, but it had deeply moved him. He could still feel the softness and the warmth of Qui-Gon's firm lips on his. Almost panting, Obi-Wan dared to do what he had dreamt for months. He wrapped his arms around Qui-Gon's neck, and buried his face in his beloved Master's shoulder.

"I love you, Master," he whispered. "I love you! With all my heart and all my soul."

"I love you too, Obi-Wan," the other man replied, stroking his apprentice's short hair. "And I'm sorry if I hurt you. I never rejected you. I love you too much to live without you."

At this words he had lost hope to hear, the young man faced his mentor, his eyes full of a deep joy. It was like a soft balm on his hurt heart. He forgot the Council session, he forgot the little boy he had feared to steal his master from him. And when Qui-Gon kissed him again, he forgot everything but the strong body against his and the warm lips playing with his.

This time, Qui-Gon didn't just kiss him on the lips. He traced his apprentice's lips with his tongue, slowly, as to prepare him, before questing entrance. Obi-Wan parted his lips, shy suddenly. He wasn't a virgin, he had still dated girls, but never men, and never a man like Qui-Gon. He closed his eyes, concentrating on the unique feeling of the older man's tongue stroking his, exploring his mouth with such tenderness. Tentatively Obi-Wan replied to his Master's kiss, his hands slowly stroking Qui-Gon's long hair.

Gently breaking their embrace, Qui-Gon slowly pushed his apprentice on the berth and Obi-Wan lay down obediently, his whole body expecting what was going to happen. His Master joined him on the covers, kissing him deeply, as his hands were stroking his back.

"Do you want me as I want you, Obi-Wan?" Qui-Gon asked in a whisper.

"Yes, Master," the younger man replied with all his soul.

Qui-Gon smiled. "When we're together like that," he said, "there is no more master or apprentice. There are just two lovers."

"Yes, Qui-Gon," Obi-Wan replied, smiling back to the older man.

He had more or less expected those words from his Master. They would be still Master and Padawan when they would be in mission, or in the Jedi temple, but in the intimacy of their quarters, they would now only be two men, equals and lovers. Obi-Wan hid a smile, wondering if Qui-Gon could accept to be bottomed. At this thought, a rush of lust invaded his body, and he sat up, impatient now to taste that previously forbidden fruit.

Slowly, staring at the other man to see his reactions, he began to unfasten Qui-Gon's belt, suddenly realizing that he had never seen him naked, not even naked to the waist. Obi-Wan had unfastened his lover's robe, and pulled it away, revealing a strong torso, almost hairless, with tanned smooth skin under which long muscles played harmoniously. Hungrily, Obi-Wan kissed the other man's chest, running his lips on the linear curves, before coming back to Qui-Gon's neck.

The older man didn't remain idle. His fingers were active on Obi-Wan's belt, and quickly he pushed away the layers of material, leaving the younger man naked to the waist. Gently, he made him lay again on the covers, and began to unfasten his pants after have getting off the black boots. When the young man was naked on the berth, Qui-Gon couldn't help but leaving a long stroke from the other man's shoulders to his ankles.

"You're so beautiful," he whispered.

Obi-Wan was rock hard, and despite his efforts, ready to come. The single touch of the older man's hand on his body had made him feel on fire. He moaned when his Master kissed him. His hands went to Qui-Gon's fly, but despite the burning of his desire, he didn't dare to make the next move. Twenty years of respect hadn't taught him to be comfortable in this kind of situation. Qui-Gon smiled and pulled away, then slowly removed his boots, pants and boxers. At the sight of the older man's naked arousal, Obi-Wan gasped and opened his arms to him. Qui-Gon came back beside him.

Gently he left a trail of kisses along the young man's neck, teasing him, as his left hand grabbed the hard member between Obi-Wan's thighs. The young man moaned aloud, and thrust again the strong hand, begging for more. Qui-Gon let his mouth slide to the younger man's nipples, on the flat hard stomach, before taking the throbbing shaft in his mouth. Obi-Wan cried out in pleasure and grabbed the covers, overwhelmed by the wonderful sensations his Master's lips and tongue elicited from him. Soon, too soon, his body reached his pinnacle, and he exploded in pleasure in Qui-Gon's mouth, who swallowed eagerly the young man's seed, Obi-Wan's purring of pleasure.

Qui-Gon knelt on the berth, staring at his young lover, filling his eyes with the wonderful sight of Obi-Wan's naked and sweaty body, fists still clenched on the covers, panting, his lips parted. Then he opened his eyes and smiled to his Master, before sitting up and hugging him spontaneously, kissing him in the neck.

"Thanks," he just said, but it was enough to make the other man understand what he felt. Slowly, he pushed the older man on the berth, and asked almost shyly,"Can I?"

Qui-Gon nodded, and the young man's hands flowed over his lover's body, followed by his mouth. Obi-Wan had the feeling to make love to an icon, to a sacred body, and he concentrated on Qui-Gon's reactions to his ministrations, learning his sensitive points. He sucked on the hard shaft, cupping the heavy balls in his hand, teasing the heated sac, before Qui-Gon softly pulled him away.

"I want to come in you," he said.

Obi-Wan blushed at the thought. He was hard again and ready for his lover's desire but deep in him there was the exciting fear of the first time. Qui-Gon smiled to him and standing up, rummaged in the little closet built in the partition until he found a little tube of lube. Obi-Wan blushed more, his heart pounding in his chest. But he forgot his apprehension when his lover hugged him again on the berth and kissed him tenderly. He barely noticed that the older man's hand was moving down to his thighs until he felt a coated finger circling his puckered opening. He started a little when Qui-Gon's forefinger entered him.

"Hurt?" his master asked him.

"Yes. But it feels good too," the young man replied, eyes closed, enjoying the strange new feeling.

He felt another finger joining the first, then a third, that tenderly stretched him, and moaned under the soft ministrations. When Qui-Gon withdrew his fingers and wanted to roll him on his stomach, he stopped his Master's move, and sinking his eyes in the older man's, whispered, "Can we.... eyes to eyes?"

Qui-Gon nodded. Obi-Wan lay on his back, and as Qui-Gon parted his legs, he sank on his elbows, wanting to see his lover entering him as the same as he would feel it. Qui-Gon positioned himself between and coated his cock with the lube, before slowly pushing in Obi-Wan's opening.

The young man had a start when he felt the hard cock entering him. He watched it disappeared into his body, and moaned as both slight pain and hot pleasure hit him. His head fell back and he let his body lay back flatly on the berth, wrapping his legs around Qui-Gon's waist, his hands stroking his lover's arms. The older man kissed him hard while thrusting in his ass, and Obi-Wan cried out when his lover's cock hit a special spot in him, sending powerful shivers of pure pleasure in his body, radiating from his spine to his whole frame.

The pleasure was growing up in Obi-Wan's body, until it reached its peak, making the young man shout his pleasure, before he collapsed on the berth, unconscious.

Qui-Gon first frowned, coming back from his own powerful orgasm, then reassured, withdrew from his young lover, and lay down on the berth beside him, catching his breath. A few moments later, he rose to his feet and took a wet towel and run it over Obi-Wan's face. The young man blinked, then opened his eyes and took a deep breath before stretching like a cat.

"I really fainted?" he asked, surprised.

Qui-Gon nodded. "You did, Obi."

He went back to the berth, and hugged his lover before pulling the covers on them. The younger man snuggled against him, gently stroking his lover's chest.

"Things seem so different now," he whispered.

"Why?" Qui-Gon asked. "I was in love for you for a long time. We will still be master and apprentice. The only change will be in our degree of intimacy."

Obi-Wan had a short laugh and explained, "I mean that before this day, I was worried about you when I saw you fighting, now I'll be scared to the death."

"Fear...." began his Master.

"Yes I know," Obi-Wan cut him, taking his hand in his and kissing it. "Fear leads to anger, and so on. But even a Jedi has the right to be worried about his lover's safety."

"You're talking about my fight against that man on Tatooine?"

The younger man nodded. "He almost won, Qui-Gon. My heart missed a beat when I saw him taking the advantage. Why is he so strong?"

Qui-Gon sighed. "He's strong because I'm getting old, and because he used the dark side of the Force. I think he's a Sith Lord."

"You're not old," Obi-Wan protested with conviction. "Believe me, you're not old. But if he's a Sith Lord, that could explain a lot of things."

Qui-Gon smiled to his young apprentice, and patted the short blond hair, wanting him to forget the discussion. But he knew that sooner or later he would have to confront the dark lord, and he wasn't sure at all he could win. It seemed to him his own death was floating in the air before him.

Later, Naboo planet

Obi-Wan's hands were clenched on his light saber. His heart was pounding in his chest, as he was watching his Master desperately fighting against the Dark Lord. Obi-Wan could saw the first signs of tiredness from his Master, but he couldn't do anything, as he was separated from the fighters by the energy shield.

He bit his lower lip, wondering how he could act to help his Master who was losing ground. Obi-Wan breathed deeply and suddenly felt something invading his mind. He frowned, wondering what it was, but let it happen. And then all became clear. He stretched his hand, and spent through the energy shield without meeting any resistance.

He entered the fight area but something was wrong. It was like the time had slowed and he could watch the fight in slow motion. He saw Darth Maul's red light saber beginning his lethal race right to Qui-Gon body, and quietly, stretched his hand toward the Sith Lord, and just pushed away.

The red laser brushed against Qui-Gon's side, making him fall on the ground. Darth Maul shouted in frustration as he was pulled away and pinned to the wall. He quickly regained his balance, but only to feel a hard blow on his chest, as a lethal snake slowly winded his rings around his neck. Obi-Wan lit his light saber, and just stood in front of Darth Maul, acting with his pure will to slowly but surely strangling his Master's enemy.

There was no hate or anger in Obi-Wan's mind, only determination and the thought he had to act now. He tightened his lethal embrace to Darth Maul, until he saw the other man panting for breath, until he heard his neck cracking. Then the Sith Lord's body fell on the ground, lifeless.

Obi-Wan slowly released his embrace, and had the feeling he was regaining the normal universe plane. He was exhausted. He fell on his knees, panting. And he frowned. He wasn't with his Master; he was still on the other side of the energy field. He hadn't entered the room!

But Qui-Gon rose to his feet, one hand on his injured side, but smiling. He cut the energy field, and knelt beside his apprentice, hugging him. "You saved my life, my love," he whispered tenderly.

"How? I don't understand," Obi-Wan asked, the head full of questions. "I believed I entered the room through the energy field, but I didn't."

"You came in, but not physically," his Master explained to him. "You experienced something rare and not scientifically proved, the astral projection. As your body couldn't physically come in, your spirit did it."

Obi-Wan nodded, too stunned and too happy to really take conscious of what happened. "What about you?" he asked with concern.

"A light burn, nothing that some medicine can't heal," Qui-Gon replied.

Epilogue

A few days after the battle, Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan were still on Naboo, as the Queen's guests. Embraced in the fading sun light, just before dusk, on the balcony of their luxurious apartment in the royal palace, they just enjoyed the fact to be together and alive.

"You know, Obi," Qui-Gon said as the last sunrays faded, "I think that it's your love that saved my life."

The young man nodded, his hand in his lover's. "I think so. I can't explain how I did that, how I went out of my body. I only knew you were in great danger, and I did it."

Obi-Wan relaxed against his Master's strong body, and kissed him in the neck. He didn't say more, but he had the feeling that something else had deeply changed, not in his life or in his Master's life, but in the whole universe.

Qui-Gon tightened his embrace around his apprentice. Even if he enjoyed being still on Naboo, he felt the need to come back to the Jedi Temple on Corruscant to meditate and to talk to Master Yoda. The dark shadow that was in front of him for a few days, since he had met the little boy, had faded now. It was like his survival had been the key. But he didn't know what door it had opened. Or closed.
