HIS LIFE
((c) JEL August 1999)

Moving with unattested grace
In perfect unison of thought and spirit
Master and apprentice braze the stroke
Of fate to reach a long-awaited end of
What they've seen must be - the
One conclusion meant to separate two
Loving hearts, devoted souls that will
Be severed by the dark of death.

As one life is taken, the other dies alike
In this brief moment left to feel a heartbeat,
Steal a word of comfort in the whisper of
A name.

Giving in to grief is powerful in its simplicity
Yet hope or care must not be forsaken for the
Truth of loss nor can the bond be broken
For eternity.

When the apprentice has suffered his own fate,
Has learned to bear the destitution of loneliness
And given in to destiny's chosen paths then he
Will find his own apprentice take the toll
Engage a dreaded loss and strike once more
To dim the glowing ember and reunite two
Hopeful lovers in the Force.
