Heartworm, heartworm, there in my soul
tell me a story and then make me whole again
I guess you know I'm running against time
to find him again, I'm out of my mind
I guess I just have been blind

He says I'm hiding behind my wall of ice
and I'm hard to understand and hardly ever nice
Well I guess that he's right but then I don't know
how much of his heart is true, how much is show

We were running to be lovers at last
and that what is 'now' is not haunted by 'past'
There in the sand there's water in the prints of his feet
Each toe a little ocean I always believed

Each day we grew quieter and stood a little farer apart
Each day we allowed distance to measure the heart
until he was so far away that I hardly could see
that he had begun to run, run away from me

You're already in there, you've been living inside
I guess you saw all things I tried to hide
Heartworm, heartworm, just the two of us know
how to keep walls high and expectations low

Find his pictures and please be so kind
Remove all the images that you may find
Make me whole, let me forget the past
Love is a cut anyway, only the scars last
